I AM WAITING . . . FOR YOU.

Gnome & UnGnome Facts About Anne:

Creative thinking is a thread woven through my life. As a child, I was fascinated by nature—from frogs in the basement window to crayfish in a local stream to butterflies.

The last of five children, my life was simple—school in fall, pool in summer.

Underwater, I’d swim like a mermaid and imagine tropical fish and dolphins by my side. My parents allowed me a lot of freedom to explore, which sparked my imagination and ideas that I’d draw.

From summer art classes at a local farm and the MFA in Boston to portrait classes at our library, then live drawing classes at the Art Student League in New York — I’ve always kept creative thinking in my life.

As a teen tour guide at the State House to an intern at the Brooklyn Museum of Art (making puppets and holding gallery-based art projects)—sharing my love of creative thinking, art and history is woven into my soul. Visits to the MET, MOMA, Frick, and 57th street galleries filled my creative well as a young adult.

With an Art History major and Studio Art minor in college, I became a graphic artist. It enabled me to love my career. Copy was integral to design, so I often wrote or choose words that were the essence of the visual concept. When words and art gel it’s magic. My first job required me to create many children’s designs. It inspired me to take a Saturday Children’s Book class at the Museum School in Boston. I promised myself when the timing was right, I’d return to my dream of being an Author/Illustrator. Fast-forward three decades, many creative job titles, and one preemie — today I’m fulfilling this dream. I’m a member of SCBWI, The Writer’s Loft, South Shore CB Critique, and read The Horn Book faithfully. I continue to weave creative thinking into my life my way, by writing and illustrating children’s book stories.

I’m looking forward to stories I’ve yet to dream up, write and illustrate. Unique stories with imagination, emotion, and substance, that entertain and educate, while layered with my love of nature and optimism. Stories based on real experiences or stories I imagine happening, like a berry waking up in a bird’s nest or a weathervane cricket coming to life.  These days, I look to brilliant moons, spring peepers and chirping crickets, the Michelson Gallery, Eric Carle Museum, and tiny stationary shops for inspiration—I can’t wait to see where my imagination goes next!
