BANSHEE/Bean Sídhe (Ireland)
The Banshee is from Celtic folklore. Ireland and Scotland both have banshees (Bean Sidhe in Irish, or in Scots Gaelic, Ban Sith. There is a similar creature in Wales). She comes at night in the form of a ghostly woman who is screeching (keening), Some believe she leaves a comb in the road, hoping a human will pick it up and allow her to steal that person’s soul.
Some believe all Irish families have their own Banshee. When someone in the family is about to die she keens out in the night and knocks on the door three times, warning the family of what is to come.
Her other names are Woman of the Fairy Mound, Faerie Woman, Hag of the Mist, and Little Washerwoman.
