Is Champ Real?
Sightings of Champ date back in history to the Indigenous people of the area, the Iroquois and the Abnaki. The Abnaki called the monster Gitaskog. Hundreds of people have reported seeing Champ over the past centuries. Champ was spotted by a ferry boat Captain while he was driving the ferry! The famous photo of Champ was taken in 1977 Champ is protected by laws in both New York and Vermont.
Jean Taft, who wrote the poem, “Monster of Lake Champlain” grew up near Lake Champlain and still looks for Champ every time she rides the ferry!
