Charlotte wrote the poem WOOD SPIRITS.
Gnome & UnGnome Facts About Charlotte:
Charlotte (She/Her) has loved creating with words since fifth grade, not knowing that one day she would be guiding children the same age on their own writing journeys.
In high school and college, Charlotte wrote features for newspapers and yearbooks. From there she tiptoed across the bridge into the grown-up world of writing poems and stories for children.
When Charlotte’s stories for children, and her middle-grade verse novel find their way into the world as published books, she’ll be sure to let young readers know about them!
Her writing spark was ignited when a teacher praised her story scripts that were written just for fun. Then she saw her own name published as a by-line in the Poets Corner of the hometown newspaper, like a real author!
You’ll find Charlotte’s poetry in several collections: Firsts, An Assortment of Animals, and Friends and Anemones, as well as two titles by ‘The Magic Story Makers Present…’: The Variety Show and Kaleidoscope for Kids.

Absol’s Q&A with Charlotte:
If you could be any magical creature, what would you choose? No bonus points for choosing a gnome. 😉
I’d be a Wood Spirit, a provider of comfort and guidance to one who feels lost or detached.
I adore the wood spirits. Charlotte, this isn’t your first anthology rodeo, what made you throw your words into the ring again?
I find writing inspiration in a theme-based poetry challenge and have loved that my membership in the Writers’ Loft has provided four such opportunities over the past seven years. EVERYONE I’ve met at the Writers’ Loft has been friendly, supportive, and helpful in my journey as an author. I am happy to count many Lofters among my circle of kidlit community friends.
I love that answer. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you all through these interviews.
As I continue to query agents with the MG verse novel which I spent two years writing, I’ve had five requests for the full manuscript…of which two are still ‘considering’ > a teeny-tiny ‘win’?
That’s exciting and I’d say a big win, even though most things seem big to me because, well I’m kinda small. Tell me how your charming poem about my good friends the wood spirits came to be? Also, I read it to them and they were quite smitten.
I wrote three poems, of which, the one about wood spirits was chosen for inclusion. Of the two that didn’t make the cut, one reflects my Jewish heritage and the other is based on a fun legend I heard when I lived in Burlington, Vermont, where a giant creature was believed to inhabit the waters of nearby Lake Champlain. The idea for my Wood Spirit poem came from what I learned when my husband took a woodworking class in which he was taught to carve a very special, kindly face into the top of a walking stick.
Thanks for your time, Charlotte!
