Gnome & UnGnome Facts About Deb:
I am an artist, author, and illustrator. My poems and illustrations contributed to three anthologies, AN ASSORTMENT OF ANIMALS, FRIENDS & ANEMONES, and the upcoming GNOMES AND UNGNOMES to be released in 2023.
When I was a kid, I would cut out the paper dolls from the Sunday paper and design clothes for them. As I got older, I learned to sew and made my own doll clothes.
As an adult, I had a faux painting business, and sewed my own draperies, and Halloween costumes for my kids. More recently, I created costumes for several fashion shows. Now, I am creating my own greeting cards and prints which are for sale in several stores.
Absol’s Q&A with Deb:
Hello Deb! Thanks for being our LEGEND of the WEEK!
If you could be any magical or legendary creature, who or what would you be and why is your answer a gnome?
Pegasus.
I think you misspelled gnome.
I love horses.
Gnomes?
They are beautiful creatures…
Oh, thank you…wait, you’re still talking about Pegasus, aren’t you?
…and I would love to be able to fly through the air.
I’m just gnoming around, Pegasus are pretty cool.
Can you tell us a little about how you came to be a part of Gnomes & UnGnomes? You’ve been a part of previous Loft anthologies, right?
I’ve been a member of The Writers’ Loft for years and participated in the last two anthologies. I find the anthologies fun, challenging, and a great learning opportunity. I enjoyed working with the other artists and seeing how they approached the various poems.
And do tell us about your anthology poems and how you came to choose a water horse. So rare!
My background is Celtic, meaning both Irish and Scottish. Most people are familiar with leprechauns but Nessie, the water horse, is not as well known.
What’s great in your life right now that you want to share, personal or professional? Some wins?
I started my own line of greeting cards, prints, and bookmarks which are selling in several New England stores. It’s very rewarding to hear someone say, “These cards make me smile.”
I love greeting cards and you capture the animals beautifully! Of course, gnomes call them “reeting cards” which is a joke that hasn’t gotten old in 5,000 years or 97 interviews #GnomeJokes amirite?
