GOLEM: A Legendary Clay Beast Created to Protect Jewish People
In Jewish folklore, a golem is a monster, formed from dust, clay or mud, that looks like a person. The golem comes to life when its creator chants and recites Hebrew letters. Golems are made magically by human beings and have great power. They can be women or men. Golems act as rescuers when a Jewish community is in danger.
The first person to create a golem was Rabbi Judah Loew long ago in the 16th century in Prague. He made a golem to protect the Jews of the city. Sometimes, golems become so strong and frightening that they are hard to control. Today robots and androids are sometimes called golems.
