GROOTSLANG (South Africa)
The Grootslang or Grote Slang (Afrikaans & Dutch for “big snake”) is a legendary creature that’s half elephant & half snake.
According to the myth, When God created the Grootslang they made it too cunning, strong, and smart. So they broke it into two creatures, but one Grootslang survived and hid and reproduced in “the bottomless pit” (a cave Richtersveld, South Africa).
The cave is said to be filled with diamonds which the Grootslang fiercely protects and covets. If you’re unfortunate enough to cross its slithery path, you can bargain for your life with jewels.
