Gnome & UnGnome Facts About Jane:

Jane Kohuth grew up in NY and by the time she was two years old she may have already lost the ability to distinguish between books and what people sometimes refer to as “real life.” On her first day of preschool, she introduced herself and her baby sister as, “Frances Gloria”. (If you’ve never come upon the fabulous Frances books by Russell Hoban, do stop reading this biography and go get your hands on one now.

Now she writes picture books and poetry. And she’s quite good at it.

She knew by third grade that she wanted to write children’s books when she grew up.

The first book Jane remembers had puffy pages and could go in the bathtub with her. What, after all, could be more luxurious than a warm bath and a book? It also had a lovely illustration of a hippopotamus. I mean, they go in the water too!

If you live nearby, she will totally lend you her copy of The Francis books, if you ask nicely.

Jane’s idol is Judy Blume, author of her favorites Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, and Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself
