LEPRECHAUNS / lucharachán / leipreachán / luchorpán (Ireland)

  • The wee sprites earn gold coin payment for skillfully cobbling shoes.
  • They keep their coins in large, black pots hidden at the end of rainbows.

Celtic tribes began circulating leprechaun legends throughout Ireland in the eighth century. These stories describe leprechauns as short, solitary, magical male fairies. There are no female leprechauns.

If you’re lucky enough to catch one of the tiny tricksters, he must give you his pot of gold and grant you three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Remember, though, that leprechauns are wily. If you acquire their treasure, it may disappear in the blink of an eye.
