Gnome & UnGnome Facts About Lisa:
Lisa Billa is a children’s author and poet who likes to write about amazing creatures, real or fictional. She’s inspired by nature and especially the ocean- from California tide pools to tropical coral reefs- and once had the magical experience of snorkeling with a manatee.
A New England native, she now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, sons, and dogs.
Influenced by colorful books of fairy tales, she discovered very early that she wanted to be a writer. After earning degrees in English, psychology, and social work, she focused on children’s mental health.
She currently teaches creative writing to enthusiastic young writers. Lisa’s work aims to engage children’s imagination, fuel curiosity, and encourage connection with nature.
She enjoys hiking and travel, finds ideas on her walks, and hopes to visit all the national parks. Lisa is an active member of SCBWI, 12×12, Inked Voices, and The Writers’ Loft.
