Marcia wrote the poem, FIREBIRD
Gnome & UnGnome Facts About Marcia:
Marcia Z. Parks is a retired teacher, and teller of stories.
She resides in North Attleboro, MA with a princess of a cat in an 1858 cape which she is (very) slowly restoring.
Currently, she is on a mission to see as many homes of American presidents (and other historic houses) as she can in between sanding floors, gardening, ministering to the royal commands of the feline in charge, and attempting to work on her latest manuscripts. Oh—she also reads a lot.
Absol’s Q&A with Marcia:
Greetings, Marcia! Thanks for being our LEGEND of the WEEK!
Tell us what magical or legendary creature, who or what would you be?
I’d probably like to be the star of my poem–the Firebird–because it’s a kind of Robin Hood character helping poor people, and giving them hope. I also like that while her name implies flames, she actually doesn’t burn–at least in the stories I know. I like that contradiction.

Tell us about how you chose to write about the Firebird?
I think I got the email not long after the war in Ukraine broke out. I am Ukrainian on my father’s side and thought that writing about a character from that background would be both interesting and in a way supportive of that heritage.
What’s great in your life right now that you want to share, personal or professional?
I have a stash of manuscripts that are fairly well polished, thanks to an awesome critique group. I’m sending out queries and getting rejections, so I am definitely paying my author dues. And I just spent some time in my grandson’s classroom talking about one of my stories and what it’s like to be a writer. It was really fun to be back in the classroom!
Well, Marcia, I’ll send you all the good querying luck in 2023! Thank you so much for your time.
