RUSALKA (Russia & Eastern Europe)
A Rusalka is a Slavic water nymph, like a mermaid.
Rusalki live in rivers in Central Europe and provides moisture to farmers’ fields and forests, which helps keep everything alive. The Rusalki (plural) dance in the spring moonlight at the edge of the river.
More recently, there have been stories of Rusalki luring people in boats to jump into the water and die, but these are newer versions of the story. Originally the Rusalki were helpful creatures.
