UNDINE (Central Europe and Greece)

The name Ondine, also known as Undine, Undin, or Undina, derives from the Latin word “unda” (wave)

Originally, Undines were a type of woman-shaped water spirit. Over time, their story changed. They became more like mermaids who, if they married a man and he was unfaithful, they would die. Sometimes the man would die, depending on the story.

They are linked to Greek mythology originally, but more recent stories hail from Central Europe.
